This is yet another NI event that I missed because I didn't get any notification by email or otherwise.  Is there nothing sent out as a reminder that this is coming up?  I was available and would have attended.

Mark was talking about sending email through this site in the future.  Also, if you go on the regular NI site and lookup seminars in the area, the user group will be listed.  And when you register for the user group via the NI site, it will send out reminders.

I think the next NI event is the Technical Symposium in November.

I appreciate that, I believe I am registered as a member of this group so I thought that would entail some kind of reminder.  I also know it's my own fault for not checking the site for events but to be honest I just don't do that very often.  I used to get emails telling me about events in the area but for some reason that doesn't happen anymore.

Sorry about the lack of email reminders I will make sure in the future to to try and give a 2 week and 1 week notice.

Also I found some links on NI.com that refer to Brian Kindinger's Advanced Data Structure presentation.

It contains the power point slides and example code.

Hi everyone,

I'm Matt from the NI seminar team. I work with a lot of our user groups in North America. I wanted to chime in to explain some of the functionality related to the community. Although a person is a member of this community, they will not receive notifications or updates unless they have subscribed to the group feeds. There are two exceptions:

  1. The group admin has the ability to email all group memebers at any time
  2. Announcements posted to the group will alert non-feed sunscribers

I recommend using announcements to alert group members about upcoming meetings. They alert everyone in the group regardless of subscription. They stay on the page for a specified period of time, notifying new guests or visitors to the site. And, they are prominently placed at the top of the page.

Outside of the community, NI continues to promote are user groups through email as well. However, there are a variety of reasons why an individual may not receive an email.

How exactly do we create an announcements?

I don't see that option on the action list.

Can anyone create an announcement or only the admin?

Hi Mark,

If announcements are enabled for the group, the actions list will include the functionality to "manage announcements". By clicking on that action, you can create, edit, and remove announcements for the community. If it is not in the list, you can enable announcements by editing the group details under the manage section. At the bottom of the group details page, you have the option to enable and disable blogs, discussions, announcements, etc. Check the announcements box and save. That should enable them for the group.

In terms of who can create announcements, I believe only group admins can do that. If you have a colleague or two that assist with planning and promoting user groups, you can modify their group status to admin by clicking manage group members under the manage section.

Hi Mark,

I just noticed that you are not listed as a group admin. My apologies, I thought you were. Chris Nelson or Alex Masters can add you as one. Did you want to follow up with either of them? Or would you like me to?
