7350 Current Limiting

I am trying to connect a Polytec PI M230.25 motor up to a NI system with a 7350 controller and MID7652 drive.

My concern is that the motor limitation has a maximum current of 170 mA, but the lowest DIP setting on the 7652 is 0.85 A (continuous) and 1.70 A (peak).

Unfortunately we already toasted one motor, but it was likely another issue.  Just want to make sure that this drive can actually safely drive this motor before I spend a huge amount of time trying.

Thanks,

-Derek

Hello Derek,

Although not recommended, you can drive the motor with a lower current by limiting the torque in MAX.  This limits the voltage range and thus keeps the drive from applying a large amount of current that might overload the motors.

I hope this helps.

Vivek,

Thanks for the help.  Are there other options besides this?  I'm open to thinking completely outside the box at this point.

Also,  is there a PDF manual for MAX somewhere?  I have difficulty using the online help when working in MAX as sometimes the windows require scrolling to see all of the help, but in the process of moving there the help jumps to a different topic.

Regards,

-Derek
