Connecting UMI 7774 to servoamplifier and to PXI 1042

Hi I am trying to figure out how to connect this servoamplifier, http://www.copleycontrols.com/Motion/pdf/Accelus_Panel.pdf, it runs this sofware for control http://www.copleycontrols.com/Motion/pdf/CME2_User_Guide.pdf, To the NI UMI 7774 and then connect everything to a PXI 1042. I have called NI and talked to an applications engineer and have a greater understanding of some basics. We were not able to figure out why I would need the UMI. The overall purpose of my project is to control a 3 axis machine. I want to use labview to "tell" the motor to move to a ceratin p[osition at a certain velocity. i am trying to get a grasp of all of this so feel free to explain things in the simplest of ways, I will not be offended but rather appreciate it. Thank You in advance.

I haven't used this amp before, but from the documentation, you shouldn't need any NI hardware.  This is a positioning drive, and can take ASCII commands for control.  You will only need to connect a serial cable to it and use Labview to send ASCII commmands.  Download "Copley ASCII Interface Programmer's Guide" to figure out the commands.
