Encoder resolution from bit to Cycles/revolution

The resolution of a speed encoder is marked as 60-bit.  Can someone please tell me what this means and how I can convert this into cycles/revolution? Thanks

Although unconventional to most everyone, the "60 bit" means 60 pulses per revolution.

I have never heard about this nomenclature. ItÄs really strange and potentially misleading... What do you mean by 60 pulses/rev? Is this 60 counts/rev or is it 60 lines/rev which would result in 240 counts/rev with an X4 decoding?

I agree this is misleading.  I would suggest that the manufacturer of this device be contacted to verify this, but it is more than likely a straight 60 pulse per revolution device.  Since this was designed for speed detection, I doubt that it is quadrature.
