Error in NI Motion Assistant: NI motion templates not found.

I am trying to generate Labview code by going to "Tools" --> "Generate Code" --> "Labview Diagram"  but I get the error:

"There was an Error during Code generation. Possible Reasons are :

1:NI Motion Templates not found
2:User has cancelled Code Generation

Is there way to fix this? The two steps I specified were a "reference move" and "measurements".

Thanks for letting me know.

Chris,

Take a look at this online Knowledgbase:

Hi Luke H,

I have tried to install the Labview 7 support from the NI Motion disk, hoping that this would fix the problem, but it did not.

All the components from the NI Motion disk that came with the boad are installed. Labview 7 was installed prior to receiving the board.

But I still get the above error messages when I try to generate Labview code. The board seems to be recognized by the system in MAX.

I just simply to test voltages in the 0-10V range in Labview or NI Motion, using the card before I integrate it to the real motion control system which has sensitive and expensive equipment.

A separate question: Eventually, I would like to set up NI Motion so that the stepper motor will stop when the input voltage reaches a certain level (the input voltage is a force sensor, and if too much force is put onto the sensor it will break, since it is a high precision instrument in the low force range). My question. Can I set a value that stops stepping once a certain voltage is reached on one of the inputs, if it is ever reached?

Sincerely,
Chris

Chris,

I'm guessing that if you just recently purchased this card that it probably came with either NI-Motion 7.4 or 7.5.  LabVIEW 7.0 is only supported by NI-Motion 7.2 and earlier.  If this is the situation we are looking at, then this explains your card working fine but not being able to export code to LabVIEW.  I would recommend you download NI-Motion 7.2 from our Drivers and Updates page.

Hi,

Tried to install NI Motion 7.2 with the link Luke H gave me, but the installer says "you already have a higher version...not installing", and the installation exits.

I am still unable to generate LabView code.

Chris--

That is expected behavior.  Just uninstall the version that you currently have installed and install the one recommended by Luke.  Thanks.

Hi,

I seem to have gotten around the error generating Labview code, only to get a new one (it asks for the location of missing *.flx files).

Any suggestions?

Sincerely,
Chris

Chris,

The .flx files it is looking for are actually vi's that have an flx extension for compatibility with old versions of Motion.  These file are usually located in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW x.x\vi.lib\Motion

I would recommend looking for them there, (they will be inside .llb files).  If they are not there, then you probably need to install LabVIEW support for your Motion driver.  (Start » Control Panel » Add or Remove Programs » National Instruments Software » NI Motion » Modify » LabVIEW x.x support)
