How do I wire UMI7344 to a third party driver?

I am trying to connect a Compumotor ZETA drive to a UMI7764 connected to a 7344 controller. How do wire the two together? (The 25 pin D-connector on ZETA contains "reset+, reset-, faultC, faultE, shutdown-, shutdown+, direction-, direction+, step-, step+)

Since the inputs on the 7344 controller are open collector inputs, what you will need to do is to connect the signasl in the following fashion:

Amplifier UMI

step+ +5 volts
step- step(cw)
direction+ +5 volts
direction- direction(ccw)
shutdown+ +5 volts
shutdown- inhout
faultE ground
faultC inhin

The lines before mentioned are the basic lines you need to connect to get your motors up and running. I am not sure what the reset lines on your amplifier are specified to do, but if you let us know, I would be able to tell you where to connect them.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Regarding the reset lines, the manual says:
"The reset input provides a means for you to reset the ZETA drive, without actually cycling power. To activate the reset input, apply a positive voltage to RESET+ with respect to RESET- when the motor is not moving. The reset will not be complete until 0.7 seconds after the voltage is removed. A reset has the same effect on the drive as cycling power:
*DIP switch settings are loaded into the drive for configuration.
*Existing faults are cleared.
*Current to the motor is turned off while voltage is applied to the reset input.
*After voltage is removed from the reset input, the drive's soft start procedure will ramp current up to the startup state. The motor will move to the neare
st pole position.
*After voltage is removed from the reset input, there will be 0.7 second delay before reset is complet, and normal operations can continue."
Could you please tell me how to wire these lines?

Also, for each axis, there are three home/limit switches(one in center, and the other two near the two ends respectively). For each switch, attached are three wires labeled +5-+30VDC, gournd, and and output signal. Do you happen to know how to wire them to UMI?Thanks in advance.

OK, I think that in order to use the reset line on your amplifier, you can connect this line to any of the general purpose digital IO lines on the 7344 rather than the UMI. YOu will need a connector block such as an SCB 68 and an sch68-c68-s cable in order to bring this pins out as screw terminals, You would then basically connect your digital line to the reset+ terminal in the amplifier and ground to reset-. You would need to generate through software the output to be high for as long as you want it to be.

As for the limit switches, I will have to take a look at the manual for the amplifier in order to know exactly what goes where. Do you have the product number for the amplifier so that I can go to their website and look at the specs for the signa
ls?
