I want to use labview and fieldpoint 1000 to control the mass flow in hydraulic system, can this be done?

In a research setup a hydraulic circuit is constructed to mix two flows. The mass flow is controlled by a pump driven by an asynchrone motor. The mass flow is measured by a special mass flow sensor. The sensor output is relaid through the fieldpoint system to a pc with labview. We want to use labview to control the pump. Can this be done?

In a control system any extra time-delay that aproaches time-constants of the system, makes it extra difficult to control.
Determine or predict time-constants of the system and if these get pretty close to a worst-case time delay of the time it takes from a sensor signal change to a change of FP output modules, you may need another solution. In my opinion, Fieldpoint was not designed for applications like control at a bandwith > few Hz's.
For higher loop-rates, I think the newer Real-time FP modules are a better option, because they can run controlloops real-time without a connecting computer. That is because the application code is downloaded in the FP-module.

Good luck, Patrick de Boevere
