LabviewRt software wizard doesnt display Ni Motion 73xx Controller support driver to new PXI-8184 controller.

Hello anyone, My other controllers (8146RT) display "Ni Motion 73xx controller support" but this new PXI 8184 doesn't show it as an option. I tried rerunning Ni-Motion 7.2, no success. How can it be made to appear in the wizard? regards frank

Hi Frank,

From what I understand, you have a PXI-8184 running with the LabVIEW RT Engine on it and you are able to view the PXI system under Remote Systems in Measurement & Automation Explorer.  When you try to Add/Remove software for the controller, the NI-Motion RT software does not show up anywhere for you to add.  Please let me know if this is the case.  Also, what is the Motion controller board and chassis that you are using, what slot is the Motion board in, and what other modules do you have in the chassis?  Does this Motion board work fine with another chassis and controller?  I'm going to have to do some more research on this, so in the meanwhile, let's use process of elimination to find out what might be causing this (by swapping out Motion controllers, chassis, slots, cables, etc. if at all possible).  Any additional information you can provide will be most helpful.

Thank you,

Thanks Irene,
You are correct, when I try to Add/Remove software for this controller (PXI-8184), the NI-Motion RT software does not show up anywhere in the list.
Ive just recieved this controller new from NI.
Im using a PXI1002 chassis and 2 motion boards. 7344s in the next 2 slots to the controller.
Ive tried rebooting with the 7344s in or out and 1 at a time with no success.
"Ni Motion 73xx controller support" is never displayed in Add/Remove software for this controller.
If I plug in my 8146RT controller, the motion cards work fine and "
Ni Motion 73xx controller support" is displayed in the wizard.

I tried rerunnning Ni-Motion7.2 without success.

If I could see the driver then I could install it on the PXI and Im sure the 7344 cards will work.
There are no other boards in the PXI chassis.

regards
frank

PS I have 3 PXIs that I update using one laptop. The other 2 are in use but are running  OK with 8146RTs at the moment.

Hi Frank,

I booted my PXI-8184 (in LabVIEW RT mode) and was able to view the "NI Motion 73xx controller support" just fine so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the model.  Here are several things to double-check:
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs >> National Instruments Software >> NI-Motion 7.2 and click Modify.  Add LabVIEW Real-Time Support (under NI 73xx Controller Support) if it isn't already.
  • In Measurement & Automation Explorer, do you have LabVIEW Real-Time installed on the PXI controller?
I've attached a screenshot of Add/Remove Programs when I'm modifying to show you what I mean.   Please let me know the status of those settings.

Thanks,

Hello Irene,
Yes, to both your questions.
I do have 7344 controller support and LabViewRT support.
In MAX PXI LabViewRT version = 8.0,  OS = 10.1

Hello Irene,
I ran the Ni-Motion 7.2.1 update and it has worked.
Ni Motion 73xx controller support 7.2.1 can be seen and downloaded now.
Its quite frustrating because it took more than 2 days to get this new controller to work with motion cards.
Ni-Motion 7.2 didnt display the driver at all, no matter what I tried.

Hi Frank,

I apologize, I was using NI-Motion 7.2.1 on my computer and forgot to mention the update to you.  I'll make sure to document that this is a situation that can be fixed with this Motion update.  I'm glad to hear it's working now; best of luck with your application!

Cheers,

Hi Irene,

This week I had the same problem. I also use a PXI 1002 chassis with PXI-8156B and PXI-7344 controller.

My PXI-8156B controller broke down, I replaced it with a PXI 8184 controller.

I also didn't find the PXI-controller back in MAX. I use NI-motion 7.2

I would like to download the 7.2.1 update but I cannot find it on the web.

Is it possible to send me a link ?

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,
Ive attached a copy of the 7.2.1 update that I had saved.   Its a .exe file but I changed the extension to .txt because a .exe came up as 'not a valid extension.
NI encourage the latest version to be used however Im still using the 7.2.1 update with no problems.
regards
frank

Thank you very much Frank.

The update to 7.2.1 worked and you saved me a lot of time.

My system is working again as before (my old PXI controller broke down).

When I switch execution target to the controller I get the following error " Failed to load shared library, nimcdldp.dll on RT target device".
I just ignore this error and everything works. I tried to edit the ni-rt.ini file and removed the dll entry but then the motion-controller isn't working.

Kind regards,

Tom
