Motion 7.0 => 7344 no more found

Hello,

i just installed a PCI7344 and the Motion 7.0 .
Now there is no more PCI7344 available in the MAX, well it is detected as a card, vendor is NI but there is not "motion device" folder and no 7344.
MAX update (F5)  did not help.
Renaming the data folder in the max folder did not help.
The board has a valit (>0) SN.
In the Windows XPpro Hardware Manager is the 7344 listed as a NI Motion device.
I took another 7344 board to check, the same: no 7344 in the MAX.
System: PCI-PC, Windows XP, LabVIEW 7.1.1, Max 3.1.1, Motion 7.0

I did a test with Motion 6.1.5 and both cards were ok, found and running.

Why does Motion 7.0 no more recognize my Motion board?
There was a forum post a few month ago but this didn´t help.

Best regards

Marko Hepp

PS: is it "legal" to contact US NI because there is no german NI support available at this time (7:20pm europe) ?

There is a new option in the installer of Motion 7.0 that you must activate when you want to use 73xx controlers. Because I'm using a french version of the installer I can't tell you the exact english (or german ?) name. May be "Support for NI 73xx Controlers" or something like that...

Hello "JB",

i tried to install Motion 7.0 again (after uninstalling), selected custom installation: checked RealTime Support for 7344 but there is no difference.

I don´t know what kind of new installer optionyou are talking about.

Can You tell me even in the french version what options You used?

What happened in the past was that localized Versions of LabVIEW (like french oder german) contained updates that did not reach the same

english version so that all english users had to wait till the next small release/patch.

Thank You very much and best regards

Marko Hepp

Hello JB,

There may be something going on during installation that results in this behavior.  Please follow the proceedure below to create a text file that shows which dll were successfully installed.  Then attach this file to this thread and I will look into it.
  1. Open the command prompt by clicking Start»Run and then type in "cmd" without the quotations and hit enter.
  2. Type in "cd c:\Windows\system32" without the quotations and hit enter.
  3. Type in "dir nimc*.dll /s > out.txt" without the quotations and hit enter. This will create a text file called "out.txt" in the c:\Windows\system32 directory.
  4. Attach this text file to this Discussion Forum thread.

Hello Marko,

Here's a screen shot. I'm using the drivers that came with the english version of the Developer Suite (August 2005).

Hope this helps.

The problem seems to be an automated reset situation, that resets the serial number of a 7344 board. Installing the Motion 7.1 (from the LabVIEW8 Package) did not solve the problem. If the SN is "0" there is no more output  within the MAX, so You even can´t see that the SN is now "0".

Installing Motion 6.1.2 after all this, it showed the "0" Serial Number.

We had a second 7344 motion controller here, installed it on the 7.1 and later on 7.0 and it

ran great. It seems that the NI PAL causes the difference: when You uninstall the Motion, the NI PAL stays on the system only when you set up the whole System, NI PAL is "removed". This might be the critical component in the system especially because it is not uninstalled after removing Motion x.x.x.

Now we are running PAL 1.10f0 (from Motion 7.1) and a Motion 7.0.0 and the 7344 card is found. The first card has no more Serial Number and is no more acceped from the MAX.

Hello Hepp,

We have created a solution for this situation.  The solution is an executable that allows the user to change the serial number of a board with a zero serial number.  See the KnowledgeBase titled My NI-Motion Board Does Not Show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer with NI-Motion 7.0 or 7.1...
