NI Motion 8.0 Application Crash with LV2009

Hi.

I recently upgraded my LabVIEW from 8.6.1 to 2009 on a machine (Windows Vista 32, Dell Precision Workstation) that I'm working on. The machine has an NI PCI-7358. Since the upgrade, the application (which was always stable with 8.6.1) is now very unstable.

Frequently (though not always) when the motion controller is initialized, or just when a move is commanded, LabVIEW disappears. There is no bluescreen or LabVIEW error. It just disappears. When I restart LabVIEW, it does not give me a pop-up indicating that it is aware of an improper shutdown (unless there were unsaved files).  So I have no crash report to give you.

If the application makes it through motion controller initialization, then if I run my application in a mode in which it doesn't command any motion, then it will be stable.  But if I run it in a mode that requires the motion, I'll get a crash before long.

After this started happening, I opened MAX and noticed that there was new firmware available for the 7358, so I updated it, but that didn't alter the

behavior.

I downloaded the latest version of NI-Motion from the NI website, which is v8.0.0.3001, and performed a software "repair".  This did not change the crashing behavior.

Is anyone else having similar problems?  Can you recommend some steps to eliminate this problem?

Please help!  This is urgent.

Hi Jeff,

This is a rather peculiar problem.  Do you see any problems with other LV 2009 VI's or applications, or just this motion one?

Are you able to command moves from Measurement and Automation Explorer?

Also, try running an example program from 2009 and see if you see the same behavior.

Finally, did you do a repair on the motion driver or on LV itself?  If not, try doing a reinstall of LabVIEW 2009 to see if this resolves the problem.

Cheers,
