Students attempting to implement PID control on multi-axis stepper using NI SISU 1004. Unsure if PID must be implemented in Real Time or FPGA. Steepers respond to input and encoders pulses are being read. Feedback is supplied by integrated encoders on NI steppers - is there a simple and elegant way to convert encoder pulses into required PID feedback inputs?

I don't see how PID would need come into play with a stepper system position loop.

^This information is correct, I overlooked this when first reading the post.
If you are dealing with stepper motors what are you trying to use PID for?
Servos should be used with PID.
