P70360 danaher drive wiring to UMI

Hi,

I have just ordered a danaher P70360 and UMI 7772 and am trying to do a wiring diagram for them.

Can anyone confirm the following is correct:

UMI 7772

P70360 J4
Pin Number Name
Pin Number Name
1 Analog Out

2 NC

3 +5V

4 StepCW
1 Step+
5 NC

6 Enable
5 ENABLE+
7 FAULT+
7 FAULT+
8 IsoPower

9 Analog Out Gnd

10 Dig Gnd
2,4,6 STEP-
DIR-
ENABLE-
11 Dig Gnd

12 DIRCCW
3 DIR+
13 NC

14 Fault-
8 FAULT-
15 IsoCommon

from,

My main worry is that it is ok to ground STEP-, DIR- & ENABLE-.  The resource http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3442 shows many different methods such as tying DIR+ to +5V.

If the above wiring is incorrect and I need to wire DIR+ to +5V can anyone tell me whether I can run it directly to pin 3, +5V on the UMI 7772 or do I need to input a  specially optically isolated voltage?

Thanks,

Sean

I do not have the UMI output specs handy but I think they can source (supply) at least 20mA at a voltage of 2.8V or so so your setup should work. Wiring the driver units' input (+) terminals to +5VDC and connecting the (-) inputs to the UMI outputs is what we call "sink configuration". Some output driver circuits are capable of handling more current in sink mode and in this case you have to use the sink configuration.

If you use this configuration, you may use the +5VDC output of the UMI (as long as the total current consumed by the driver input circuitry does not exceed the current rating of this output). You do not need a power suppy which is isolated by any means - you rather have to make sure that the GND output of any external power supply is connected to DGND of the UMI box (they must have common GND).

Hi Sean,

I think the easiest solution would be to use the D-Sub cable that National Instruments provide with the UMI 7772 to connect to your drive. The part number to use is 1918141-2R5.

I think you will find this document useful: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4C2312A03809D9AB862576FD005917F6?OpenDocument

Hope it all works for you.
