PCI-7344 won't accept firmware update

Hello,

I am an experience user and occasionally, I come across a PCI-7344 or PCI-7342 card that installs into Win 7 or vista or XP and is recognized by MAX, but the firmware update fails.  Is there another way to get the firmware to take?

Does the board have an issue?

Thanks!

I have also encountered this lately after upgrading a system with a some years old PCI-7332 to NI Motion 8.4. The only solution was to return to the previous version. So I'm very interested in this topic.

Hello Louie,

What is your current version for NI-Motion? And what OS are you attempting to update the firmware on? Have you tried it with Win7, XP, and Vista as you mentioned? Also, where have you been attempting to update the firmware from? MAX or Device Manager?

From MAX, select your PCI-7344 under NI Motion Devices. At the bottom of the screen you should see 4 tabs- General, Firmware, Onboard Memory Manager, and Status. If you select the Firmware tab, there should be a button near the top of the screen callled "Update Firmware" If the firmware is up to date, it will be grayed out. Are you able to push this button? Where in MAX is the warning you see? Does it occur as soon as you press it, or halfway during the update?

Hi,

I tried on Win XP, Vista 64 bit and Win 7 64 bit.

I am trying to upload the firmware in MAX

I am using NIMotion 8.6.

The card is seen in MAX and by the PC and the firmware screen shows up with the update button and when pressed, it tries to update the firmware for about a minute, but then gives this error: -70136 (NIMC_event timeout error)  A wait operation timed out or a read function timed out.

( see attachment too )

Thanks!

Louie,

Currently our newest version is NI-Motion 8.4

You can check what your version of NI-Motion is by going into MAX and expanding the Software tab on the left hand side.

If you have already tried this on multiple computers, then this is leaning towards a hardware fault in the card and you will most likely need to contact your account representative to begin an RMA process.

But before we do that, please reply with your NI-Motion version, and if you have not done so already, please remove the card from your computer and reinstall your NI-Motion software and reboot. Then power down and reinsert the card and attempt to update the firmware again. Before you attempt to initialize in MAX, reboot the system again.

If you encounter the same problem after this, then the card is at fault and needs replacement.
