RS Stepper motor and UMI7772

Hi,
I bought NI motion controller which include PCI7342 and UMI7772 to control a RS stepper motor (RS-440 442).
I already built a driver for the motor. The problem here, what is the connection/wiring between driver and UMI? I do not get since the UMI only have step(CW) and Dir(CCW) and the driver need 4 step signal. Or just ignore the driver but how to connect UMI direct to the motor?

Hi,

you can't connect the UMI directly to a stepper motor as it can't drive current. Thus you need a drive with inputs for either a step and direction signal or a CW/CCW signal. It looks like your drive is a mere power amplifier for a two phase stepper motor that expects the current pattern for microstepping to be generated externally. This is not the way industrial stepper drives should work.
Most stepper drives have two inputs: One for the step signal and one for the direction signal. These drives generate the current patterns internally.

Please have a look at this link where you can find a selection of drives that work with industrial motion controllers like the PCI-7342.
