Running N31HRHJ Motor on PXI 7330 and UMI 7772

Hello guys,

I'm a beginner in Motor driving, learning this thing since a week. I read a lot of manuals and documentations and examples about this issue, but I still can't get my motor to run in any way.

The components I have:

1- PXI System, on it a NI-PXI 7330 Motion controller

2- Universal Motion Interface - NI UMI-7772

3- Motor controller Model P70530

4- Motor N31-HRHJ-LEK-M2-00

Configs:

Please check the attached images. I'm trying to use the system as open-loop. Closed-loop would be nice... but I'd love to see this motor moving in anyway possible. The system only shows numbers changing on open-loop mode with no errors. In closed-loop the response is sometimes with errors and sometimes not. Some times it says motor off, and some times it doesn't complain but nothing changes.

I have checked the signals on UMI on an oscilloscope, and it sends the signals correctly with frequencies proprtional to the velocity I see on the screen. The UMI has only the led called "Viso" lit.

Please advise. Thanks!

Come on, guys. Any hints... please?

Does the motor ever get enabled?  Does it get warm and hold position?  If not, then it sounds like there is something wrong with the enable(inhibit) wiring or setup.  I have used the 7330 series before with steppers, but have never used that drive.

Hello Highland, thanks for your reply.

Yes the motor gets warm and even hot (in half an hour, I would say 50+ degrees) and holds position. I have even measured the resistances between its terminals (of the coils in the motor) and they seem reasonable.

What else should I check?

If you have done everything as instructed in this guide, then you might have a hardware problem.

Thank you again for your reply, Highland.

I guess there's a hardware problem. But the question is: what could it be?

I have checked too many things in the hardware and everything seems reasonable.

1- I checked the signal coming from the UMI and confirmed that it sends pulses proportional to the velocity.

2- I checked the connection between the UMI and the driver and it seems fine and the voltmeter beeps for two similar cables (that worked before) at the same terminals/pins.

3- I checked the connections from the motor to the driver and made sure that the 8 cables + the UMI cable are connected properly.

4- I have two motors, I switched between them and no use.

5- I have two drivers, I switched between them and no use.

6- I used the very default configuration from the manual you provided me and it didn't work. I tried even to change the revolutions per step according to the 3 dip switched (S2 to S4) and for the default I used 5000, and no use.

7- All this on open-loop. No feed back to reduce vulnerability to errors.

What else should I check? please advise!

Thanks.

Configure the drive for PC control and try to run it through the drive software only.  It could be a cable issue, since the motor is enabled.  It just isn't seeing pulses.

Thanks again for your reply.

In that case I would need a cable with subminiature and RS23 connectors.Do you happen to know the connection between those two should be? I haven't done this before. So a hint about the cable map would be nice.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help.

It turns out the power supply had two outputs, one with 5 V and one with controllable volage, so I was using the 5 V output; which is ironic and stupid, but the stupid power supply does not have proper symbols on it.

However, for future reference, if the UMI is correctly connected to the power supply and has the correct voltage, the LEDs V and Viso should light green, not only Viso. The LEDs "Disabled" also light red.

Thanks again.

bye!
