Simple Stepper Motor Control with MID-7602 Power Drive

Hello,

I am doing some training with the MID-7602 Power Drive system and am learning some rudimentary NI-Motion with the tutorials.

One problem: no stepper motors in house.

I would really like to just plug a stepper in and run some scripts. Can anyone suggest/or has experience with a stepper that I might be able to use with this system?

Thanks.

You probably can hook up virtually any stepper motor to this drive. We are not using this NI drive but the IM481 driver module used in this drive. I don't know the current setting interface used in the NI unit but for a start, do not set the winding current too high. You may start with a setting of, say, 25 p.c. of the motor's rated current.

I think NI somewhere lists some resources for stepper motors. We have made good experiences with motors from Oriental and Phytec. Make sure you get a complete documentation and wiring schematics with the motor.

You can find a list of motors that were tested with the MID-7602 here.
