Stepper Motor Control with NI Hardware

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on a project involving stepper motor control using NI (National Instruments) hardware, specifically a myRIO and LabVIEW. I'm using it to drive a NEMA 17 motor via a stepper driver (DRV8825), and so far, basic movement works.

However, I’m looking for advice on a few things:

What’s the best way to generate accurate step pulses in LabVIEW without timing jitter?

Has anyone implemented acceleration/deceleration profiles purely in LabVIEW?

Would using an NI DAQ device with FPGA be more reliable for real-time control?

Also, I’m wondering if anyone has integrated NI Motion Assistant or SoftMotion with stepper drivers (not full servo systems).

Any input or shared experience would be appreciated – especially from those combining NI gear with open-source stepper drivers.

Thanks!
David
