Third party motion controller with LabVIEW

Hi all,

This is a question regarding using a third party motion controller with LabVIEW. I wish to know the options that are available in the market. I have been using NIs PCI-7344 motion controller. Its works fine and provides good control. But we wish to try out with other controllers too. I have heard of Delta tau motion controllers. How good is it? Are there any other motion controllers which provide LabVIEW Drivers. Please guide me on this.

I'm not aware of any specific vendors providing motion controllers that interface with LabVIEW, but I'm sure they're out there.  You might want to try your favorite search engine.

Out of curiosity, was there something about National Instruments Motion Controllers that prompted you to look at other solutions.  Is there perhaps something I can help you with?

I know that Aerotech has Labview drivers.  I have used Labview with Yaskawa's LegendMC controllers.  Those units have controllers that are made by Galil.  I made my own Ethernet drivers.  Depending on what you want to do, you could use almost any controller that has a dll library available, then just make Labview drivers that call functions from those dll's.

Hi,

Thanks brian, i'll check out their product websites. SAS, I just faced one problem with NI controllers,  i.e. co-ordinated moves for circular interpolation, for which you have already given a good suggestion. Otherwise NI controllers are great. I could develop a whole CNC controller using PCI 7344, labview and a standard intel p4 powered PC. I am into the project since 7months now and it has been a great experience. I also tried interfacing three diff. brands of servo drives, i.e. panasonic, milachron and fuji and all gave great performance and accuracy with NI controllers. Nice product!!!
