Ultrasonic system motion control and data aquisiton

I am trying to setup a motion control and data aquisition system using Labview. The hardware is already purchased. It is a 3 axis scanning system with steppers and drives. The data aquisition will be done using a LeCroy DSO over GPIB. The GPIB and motion control cards are both NI. I have the motion control wired up and I can make it step around using a JOG VI I downloaded. I also downloaded the Ultrasonic starter kit, but I could not immediately see how to use that set of VIs to make what I am looking for. I basically want to just do point by point raster scans at this time with the scope being controlled and setup for averaging at each point. Later on I may want to come up with a program that can take data while the scan axis is inmotion, but for now if I could just go to the points in a 2-d raster scan and stop and take good data at each point and save it to a file that would be great. Any advice or examples that could get me started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello denyart,

Alan from LeCroy Tech Support here.  Which LeCroy DSO are you using?  The choice of driver will depend on the which model scope.

Regards,
Alan

I am using an LT342 waverunner with GPIB. I have seen that there are many different drivers, and for my case I need to be able to set the scope up (input setting and stuff can be done manually) to get averages at each point in the scan or at least tell it to capture data at each point in the scan. More advanced control of the scope for things like FFT or setting gain based on signal strength at each point is not required.

Krlos,

In the future, I suggest you post to a new thread so that more people are able to view your posts quickly.

It seems that you were able to locate the Ultrasonic Starter-Kit. Included with this kit is a readme file that describes the installation procedures. For your benefit I have listed the instructions below:

Installation Instructions:
1. Close LabVIEW
2. Extract all contents of LabVIEW Ultrasonic Starter-kit.zip onto desktop
3. Copy "USonic Application Examples" and "USonic Menu Items" folders into the main LabVIEW directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW X.X)
4. From the USonic Menu Items folder, copy all .mnu files to the user.lib folder located
within the main LabVIEW directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\National
Instruments\LabVIEW X.X\user.lib)
5. Launch LabVIEW

Note: all controls, presentation and analysis vi’s will be located in the User Control and
User Libraries palettes.

Requirements:
* LabVIEW 7.0 or greater
* Some examples require LabVIEW Full or Professional
