Unable to clear "Error -70009 Packet Error Bit not cleared by terminator"

Hi,

While developing a motion control program on our PCI-7356 motion controller, the program crashed and we received the error:

Error -70009 Packet Error Bit not cleared by terminator

There is no way to reset the board, and resetting the PC doesn't have any effect either. The only way that I found for this error to go away was to turn off the PC, unplug the board, and re-insert it. But now I have found the error reappears a short time after the computer is on, even when nothing is being executed on the controller.

I can't find any way to clear this error. What can I do?

Thanks,

-Tomas of GTPUMA

Hi Tomas,

Have you been able to try this card in a different computer to see if you still get the error? Did this error start happening randomly or did something trigger the first time it happened? This seems like it could be a problem with your card. Thanks!

I haven't been able to try it on a different computer. This error first occured while I was running a program I developed that is similar to the "Sequence of One-Axis Moves (Onboard)" VI example. The difference is that in my code that I would create an onboard program every time a 'start' button on the front panel was clicked and wait till it finished executing or there was an error (in which case the Stop Onboard program VI was called). The program was working fine for more than a week of testing, and then it appeared suddenly. Now I can't run even the example onboard program without generating the error that locks out the board. However, any program that doesn't use onboard programming seems to work fine.

I did also speak to an applications engineer over the phone and he believes it is a hardware problem, unfortunately I'm on a strict deadline so replacement is not a good option for us at this time. Nevertheless, unless there is some way to clear this error programatically, replacing the card will likely be the next step.

Hi Tomas,

This error almost certainly indicates a hardware problem. It is not necessarily a hardware problem with the motion board, though, and so I would recommend trying the motion board in another computer before proceeding with an RMA. If you absolutely can't find another computer, you should try another PCI slot in your computer. If you still see the same behavior, you should RMA the board.

Thanks,
