Using PXI-4461 + Amplifier as a PWM to drive a 220V Single phase AC Induction Motor

Hi All,

I am a new one in "Motion Control and Motor Drives" sub-forum and it is my first time on motor study.

Recently, I have a research task on study the acoustic noise in AC Induction Motor. One of the study is PWM Inverter (i.e. DC-->AC) on Single phase Induction Motor effect. I haven't PWM inverter but i have a PXI-4461 card and amplifier as well. One of the PWM method is generated by fixed triangle carrier (switching) frequency with the modulator frequency (signal). My question is : Can i use PXI-4461 to generate a traingle switching frequency plus modulating signal with amplifier to output 220V PWM source to drive a Induction Motor which is similar to function of PWM inverter?? Is it possible? If not, have any methods to instead? Thanks

Thanks&Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

The PXI 4461 can generate a modulated triangle wave. The main question is what frequencies are you looking to use? Keep in mind the analog output can sample up to 204.8kHz, you probably won't be able to generate a signal that has a frequency higher than 102kHz. Also keep in mind that the analog output range is +/-10V so your amplifier will have to be able to step that voltage up to 220V.
