VIPM install error Maxon Maxpos controller with Softmotion

I am trying to install the Maxon Maxpos control add in for labviewusing VIPM. This will enable me to use my Maxon Maxpos controllers over ethercat on my compact RIO.

The issue I am having is that VIPM will not install the package because I do not have Softmotion 15.5 installed. OK, no problem, install it then! The problem is that on the NI site, Softmotion is listed by Year, service pack and patch (20xx, SP and f). I have downloaded and installed softmotion 2016 but I still get the error. Has anyone experienced this, should I try and earlier version of softmotion perhaps?

OK, so it turns out that softmotion is included with the compact rio drivers, and when you go to install them on your CRIO, there it says the version in numeric form - i.e 15.5.0. 

I think you also need to download the matching softmotion module for the "host," in this case 2016 will match version 16.0.0 which is the latest. Not opaque at all!
