When upgrading to flexmotion5.2, How does the PXI7344 firmware get updated?

After I download to the PXI controlller and then reboot it, does the PXI7344 firmware get updated then?

Aussie,

Please check the document called How Do I Upgrade FlexMotion Firmware when Upgrading to FlexMotion 5.0?
It is written for 5.0 but applies for 5.2 as well. Also, in case you are using RT, with FlexMotion 5.2 it is not possible to update the firmware on a PXI-7344 without using MAX. Since Motion RT currently does not support MAX on the remote machine you cannot access the firmware. The only workaround is to put the card into a Windows bootable chassis to update the firmware. The next version of FlexMotion (NI-Motion 6.0) should provide access to the motion controller cards in MAX on the remote machine.

Good luck!

Dear nestor,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
We are using RT with a 8146RT controller.
What would be the possible implications if we continue to operate the PXI7344 with the old firmware but we are now upgraded to Flexmotion5.2 on the RT chassis?
We do not have a windows bootable chassis.

Aussie,

If you do not have a Windows bootable controller then I would advise you NOT to update the driver to 5.2, since 5.2 change some of the functions and the current old firmware that your board has is not going to understand. It might or might not give you a problem, most likely it will. I really encourage you to keep your old driver then.

In the next couple of months (maybe October) NI-Motion 6.0 will be released and will allow remote configuration for RT-only controller configuration. But at this point keep your old driver then.

Good luck!
