X8/4 enable goes low when MAX or LV program executes a move

I have a UMI-7444, Kollmorgan AKD P0060306, 3 stages, NI PXI-7350. I may have changed something but not know what.  The system was working. Now the following happens:

  • Full power down and reboot
  • X8 pin 4(enable) is high
  • Start Kollmorgan Workbench and connected to the stages. All green no problem
  • X8 pin 4 is high
  • Run my LV init / reset program.
  • X8 pin 4 is high
    • Start MAX and attempt to move one access in the 1-D Interactive utility. OR run my LV program to move.
  • X8 pin 4 is low and Workbench shows “Device Inactive because: the hardware is inactive”
  • X8 pin 4 is low

I cannot clear the HW and Device inactive status in Workbench without a power down and reboot.

Please help me understand what setting or problem causes the X8/4 to go low.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I was not able to find any Kollmorgan AKD P0060306…did you mean P70360? Also I’m not sure where is this X8 pin you are talking about, could you please elaborate more on this problem and be more specific on the locations for the pins.

Consider taking a look at the manuals and check if the wiring is correct, moreover, a cable might be damaged so it would be a good idea to replace them, if possible, or test them with a multimeter (continuity).

Long story short, isolate the components and test them individually starting with the PXI-7350. Try a simply move sequence, if you noticed something out of normal then stop and track the possible source.

Kollmorgan AKD-P00306-NBEC-000 is a motor controller. There are several connectors on the controller. X8 is one of them. Pin 4 is Hardware Enable.

AKD controller

I have checked the settings a few times. Same issue with any one axis tried if tried individually. I do not have a spare UMI. All the components are new. I have reviewed the notes regarding "Hardware Enable" in the AKD User Guide and have not been able to isolate the reason for Hardware Enable switching low when any move command (MAX or LV) is given.  A bit more information:

One of many tests I have executed:

All limits are disabled.

All results below follow a power cycle and reboot.

  • With Fault and Enable as Active LOW Workbench comes up:
    • Device inactive” and “HW
    • “…Hardware Enable is inactive”
    • X8/4 low
    • stages movable
    • try to move with LV or MAX and x8/4 stays low and no movement
  • With Fault and Enable as Active HIGH Workbench comes up:
    • all green
    • stages movable
    • Device active
    • X8/4 high
    • Try to move with LV or MAX and X8/4 goes low and no movement

I wonder if you have seen the ‘Tips and Troubleshooting’ suggestions (pag. 34) from this manual (Getting Started with NI 7340/7350 Motion Controllers and AKD Servo Drives)? Perhaps the enable switch at the UMI is set to low (see figure 4)?

I would check the axis configuration.
