pci-7332

Hi all,

I'm new to motion controller and need you advice. I have a voice coil (NCM15-15-032-2LB) and a linear amplifier (LCAM) from the same manufacturer (H2W). Do I need to use a motion controller (PCI-7332) to interface between PC and linear amp? Or I can just use a multifunction DAQ (USB-6218). Could you explain to me why or why not.

Thanks

It is possible to control your linear amplifier using either a motion controller card or a DAQ card.  The motion controller card does the trajectory calculations for you, which is especially useful for complex motion.  However, you can either perform these calculations yourself in the software to determine what voltage to output using the DAQ card, or you can use the NI SoftMotion VIs.  Here is an article about setting up motion control systems using a controller card, and here is an article about SoftMotion.

I hope this helps,

Actually in my application, I only use the voice coil to generate a constant force (2 lbs) to represent a load resistance that my UUT will have to push against. So there is not much motion control that I have to deal with. And I guess using the DAQ will be OK in this case.

Thanks Christina
