2 wire pressure sensor in NI 9203

My pressure sensor is 3500B02B5G01E000 of Gems sensors.

I want to using pressure sensor with NI 9203 and planned to get 4-20mA output signal.

To consists the circuit, I understood that I need to connect power supply.

But I still have some questions.

1. Doesn't it matter how much current is supplied from the power supply? Is there any overcurrent potection device in NI DAQ board?

2. In 2 wire sensor circuit, is a resistance connection essential?

  1. As long as the power supply can deliver well above the 20mA required for the current loop, that is fine, as the sensor will regulate the current. Is the worry about what happens if the sensor fails, will it damage the DAQ?
  2. Yes, the resistor is required to convert current to voltage. In the case of 9203, this resistor is included inside the DAQ and hence not required externally.
