Can 1553 communication be done with a standard NI Daq Card?

   We are dealing with old code for a Condor 1553 card and our problem is that the card is no longer sold and the new cards are not compatible with the old code. If the code has to be rewritten, it would be nice to reduce the risk of repeated obsolecense by using a standard NI product instead.

   Can 1553 communication be done with a standard NI Daq Card? Do any Vis currently exist to use something such as a PXI-6221 for this purpose?

I recommend looking at the AIM ACX1553 Modules. It can act as the bus controller, multiple remote terminals, or a chronological/mailbox bus monitor for the MIL-STD-1553 protocol (MIL-STD-1553A/B data buses). There is also an instrument driver for this device here.
