Can I connect inputs and outputs of USB6009?

Hi All,

I am using the evaluation version of the Labview 7 software in conjunction with a USB-6009. I have the NI-DAQ7.5 drivers installed.

My question is - Is it possible to connect an analogue output of the USB-6009 directly (i.e. a piece of wire) to an analogue input on the same device? Is there a risk of short circuiting the device? What precautions should I take?

I would like to output a sine wave, and use the input to log it as a trail for tests I wish to carry out.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Peter Cruickshank.

Peter, There is nothing wrong with doing what you suggest. In fact, this is very common, for example if I ever want to test an AI and AO are working, I would use the test panels in MAX to send a sine wave out of the AO and feed it back into an AI. If the AI test panel doesn't read the sine wave in, your in trouble 🙂 This is commonly known as a loopback test. Anyway, to summarise, you will not damage the card using it in this way and it is not an unusual set-up.
All the best!

Hi,

My name is jack, I'm new to the NI development. My task is to use NI boards and software to upgrade/replace an old DAQ system for an university Lab.

Currently I have a PCI-6030E DAQ board, connected to a BNC-2110 via NI connector SH68-68-EP. Since I'm far away from the University and I have no access to the equipments for the source of the signal, I thought to use some Windows app to generate some signal to the AO and to loopback into an AI. From your post I guess that should be OK. I might need a BNC cable to connect the AO to the AI connector.

Another question is the following: The original DAQ system was written many years ago in Delphi, which interfaces the DSP card for DAQ via a DLL in C. To perserve the application but replace the discontinued DSP card, I thought to use Measurement Studio to write a Windows DLL, to encapsulate the NI DAQ card access and the Analysis for ADC part. Anybody can suggest any samples for achieving this?

Thanks.

-Jack
