Can I connect to both J12 and J13 on the SC-2056

I currently am using an E-seires PCI card (PCI-6071E), an SC-2056 adaptor, and a 16-channel 5B backplane. The 5B backplane is connected to J12, and I am using all 16 channels for analog input. I want to add a few more analog input channels, as well as utilize the 2 analog output channels of the PCI card.

Can I add an 8-channel Backplane to J13 without switching the 16-ch 5B? According to the literature I've found, both J12 and J13 drive analog channels 1 through 13. Would I have to connect the 16-ch 5B to J13, and the 8-ch 5B to J11? If I did this, would I lose analog channels 14 and 15?

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

Since you are already using analog input channels 0-15, you will need to add another backplane to J11 to access channels 16-31. You are absolutely correct about J12 and J13 both being connected to analog input channels 0-13. So, in order to access the two analog output channels, you can add a 16-channel backplane to J13 and only use slots 14 and 15, which are connected to analog output channels 0 and 1, respectively. However, you can also use an 8-channel backplane to access these channels. The slots on the 8-channel backplanes have jumpers to select whether they are routed to the lower 8 channels or upper 8 channels. So, you would put your analog output modules in slots 6 and 7, and then you would set the jumpers such that these two slots are
routed to the upper 8 channels. I have included a couple of links you might find useful below:

Good luck with your application.
