Can't get my new 6008 to work under Vista

In my work PC with XP it seems to work fine, I installed the driver, xp found the device and I got the option to start the Test Panels thing.

At home, under Vista I first couldn't get it to pop up that app selector when hooking up the device. Reinstalled everything a few times and finally it appeares, so I click on test panels and all I get is "NI Measurements Standalone Test panels has stopped working"

Selecting "Configure this device using NI Measurement & Automation Explorer" results in absolutely nothing happening.

Selecting "Begin a measurement with this device using NI LabVIEW SignalExpress" gives me this message:
---------------------------
LabVIEW
---------------------------
Unable to locate the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine.

cDAQGUI requires a version 8.2.1 (or compatible) LabVIEW Run-Time Engine.  Please contact the vendor of cDAQGUI to correct this problem.

Ideas, anyone?

Can the testpanels app be started without unplugging/plugging the USB plug? Couldn't find it..

Hello,

What version of DAQmx do you have installed? You can check this by going to the Measurement Automation Explorer  (MAX) and expanding Software. When you select NI-DAQmx, what version show? You will need at least version 8.5, 8.7 is the most recent version.

Also, does your device show up correctly in MAX (under the devices tab) and do the test panels work?

Hope this helps,

Andrew S

Hi, I have the latest version, 8.7.

In the Vista machine I cannot get any software to start, as I wrote.. Test panels, Max etc etc, they all crash instantly.

This is odd - I haven't run into that error in Vista. Is this from a clean install, or have you installed previous versions of DAQmx\LabVIEW on the Vista machine before all this? I have seen weird behaviors when installing an unsupported version and then installing a supported.

I'm also curious about MAX behavior, you mentioned that you can't open it from the pop up dialog that opens when inserting the 6009, can you open MAX at all?

Also just to check, you did install the full version of DAQmx 8.7 and not one of the runtimes - correct?

It's probably a little early to try this, but just to check - have you done an uninstall\reinstall?

Hopefully your answers will shed light on the problem,

Andrew
