Can't install 2 mseries daqs on XP PC

Solved!
Go to solution

With Windows XP PC I can install either our PCI-6229 or our PCI-6289 pci card and all works fine, but when I put both of them in windows keeps trying to install and can't seem to tell the 6229 from the 6289. If I start an install with no drivers installed it finds the PCI-6229 regardless of the slot position and keeps installing it so I end up with a long list of the same card in the hardware manager under control pannel.

What gives?

If there a trick?

Can I have two of these boards in the same computer?

Hi Rolavine,

You should definitely be able to install both cards on the same computer.  I would recommend installing the DAQmx drivers before installing the hardware.  You can find DAQmx 8.9 here. If you get the driver installed and the cards still don't work, I would try these cards on another computer to see if maybe the problem exists with the current computer.

OK, problem solved. The PCI 6229 card was failing to make good contact with the PCI connector. I had to loosen the bracket and shove it in with a death grip. For some reason NI bevels the end of the card under the PCI's gold fingers. I don't think this treatment works so good with the Dell motherboards PCI headers.

Both cards are working fine now.
