Cannot find NI Device Loader

Hi,

We recently puchased an NI PCIe - 6251 DAQ. I installed the software from the 2 cd's that came with card then installed the PCI part. I then hooked up the external hardware that came with it and fed a sin wave into it as a simple test. Upon going into some of the software accompanied the package, I received an 88705 error. I spent some time researching this and found that it was be the NI Device Loader service was not active, but when I go into the services for the computer that one is not listed though all the others are. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the software. I have also looked around the cd to see if I could find the install package for it, but that too was fruitless.

Please Advise.

 Hi Jeremy,

The NI Device Loader service shows up in the Services list as 'nidevldu'. The reason it occasionally won't start is as the computer boots up there is a default
timeout setting for the services to start, if this is exceeded then by default they won't try to re-start. Take a look at this knowledgebase article as it shows how to
find the service and change the default properties.

The correct drivers for your PCIe-6251 are the DAQmx drivers, version 8.6 can be found here.

Please do post back if you cannot find 'nidevldu', this is most likely why you are receiving the 88705 error. Following the steps in the knowledgebase article will
prevent this from happening in the future.

To test your device I would recommend using a TestPanel in MAX. You can find this by following these steps:
  1.     Run MAX
    1. Click Start Menu
    2. Click All Programs
    3. Click National Instruments
    4. Click Measurement & Automation
  2. Find your device in MAX
    1. Click the Devices & Interfaces tab to expand the tree
    2. Click NI-DAQmx Devices to expand the list of detected devices
    3. Locate your NI PCIe-6251
  3. Run a Test Panel
    1. Right-click on the NI 6251
    2. Click Test Panels
    3. Click Run to start acquiring a Differential On-demand mode input from ai0
    4. You may need to change the Physical Channel configuration if your input sine wave is to a physical channel other than ai0.

I hope these tips help, post back here if you are still experiencing problems with the PCIe-6251
