Comparing USB-6221 to PCI-6221

I'd like to know the opinions of other integrators; Is there any reason to choose the PCI-6221 over the USB-6221?

In our particular case, the USB platform seems to be the better way to go.  But there is some concern that even though the acquisition rates are reported as being the same, there may be some drawbacks to choosing the USB bus over the PCI.  Could we end up seeing delays or "missed" data with the USB?

What experiences have you had in the field with USB based acquisition?

Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Hello Patrick,

I see that you are looking at the PCI-6221 and the USB-6221, and trying to decide when to use which. These two device are of the same family and are designed to perform with the listed specs. The thing I would be concerned about would be what my hardware is capable of, for this information check the detailed specification sheet.

Often choosing the hardware will also depend on the what type of application requirements you have. Does your application require a device that is portable and has plug and play capabilities? If yes, then go with the USB device. If you don't need those requirements, then go with a PCI device.

Traditional there that have been comparison between the the bandwidth and latency on the USB vs PCI bus, the PCI/PXI bus has been listed with a better latency. I do not know if this is one of your concerns. I recommend you take a look at the spec sheet and see if the device meets all the specifications for your application, and if you are uncertain about one of the specs, we'd be glad to farther assist you with making a selection based on your application needs.
