DAQ Assistant freezes labview

I'm trying to learn Labview this week and going through the tutorials. While trying to run the one that teaches you how to take an analouge signal and put it into the program, the first step is to open up a new window and insert a DAQ Assistant icon on the block diagram and open up properties to launch the steup window. When I try to do this, the program freezes, the windows do not close and no error message appears, but clicking on anything in the block diagram or front panel does nothing, and I have to force quit.

I am running LabView 7.1 on an old Dell that's stuck in safe mode, so that may be part of the problem. I have another machine with LabView on it, but for some reason the DAQ assistant is missing from the Input Palette. If anyone  has any suggestions, it would be appreciated.

The daq assistant is cpu intensive.  If your running it on an old machine that's probably why it's locking up.  If you don't have the daq assistant on your other machine, it's because the daq mx hardware driver is not installed.  Download and install the daq mx driver and it will install the assistant.

 Hi,

You want to make sure that you install the application software before you install the drivers.  The link below shows the order of installation for National Instruments software.

If you downloaded the driver after LabVIEW then I would recommend to try testing your device in Measurement and Automation Explorer.  Also, another option would be to repair the driver in Start>>Settings>>Control Panel>>Add or Remove Programs.
