Does anyone have experience using a USB RS232 device with a compactDAQ controller running Embedded Windows? (like this) I need to interface with 8 devices via RS-232, so I'm considering adding two of these 4-port USB devices. I've had success using these on a normal Windows computer, but I've no experience using it for a compactDAQ. Seems like it should work, but I'd really like to hear first-hand confirmation if possible.
Thank you!

Hello dougm,
While I have not personally made a system using a USB RS232 device with a cDAQ controller running an embedded Windows OS, I know that other NI customers have had success doing so.
The driver that is needed to be able to communicate with a USB RS232 is the NI VISA driver. While the NI VISA driver is not officially supported on an embedded Windows OS, it is still capable of functioning on the OS.
In order to be able to install NI VISA you will have to do a fresh installation of your embedded Windows OS on the controller, because during the installation, you need to be able to create the image using the "Application Compatibility" template. The link provided below will guide you through the steps necessary to install the embedded Windows OS with the correct template.
Embedded Operation System Guide: Windows Embedded 7
After the fresh installation of your OS, you will most likely be able to install NI VISA successfully. Again, I cannot guaruntee that this will work, because the NI VISA driver is not officially supported on an embedded Windows OS.
I hope this information has been helpful.
