ESD affecting DAQ USB 6002!!!!

Hi,

I am using the USB-6002 DAQ in a system. My system connects to some of the analog and digital pins and then the DAQ is connected to the Tablet via a USB cable.

All this is fully enclosed in an ABS enclosure.

Each time we run ESD discharge test of 8kV in air near the enclosure, the DAQ freezes and only a power cycle will get it going again.

I get the error message

7220005 (append)

Code d-50405

Any idea or suggestion will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

What does MAX say when the device is "frozen" ? Does self test work ? Does reset device work ?

On the hardware standpoint, how is your system grounded ? If ESD is going to the DAQ, it likely means that the "easier" path to ground is thru the DAQ.

This may not be obvious, but the DAQ device is grounded through the USB cable, which means it is at the same ground as the tablet you have it connected to. If that tablet is not plugged in to a power supply and if that power supply's ground is not shared through the tablet then the whole system is left floating.

Even if the grounds are shared, you should probably provide a better path to ground.
