I recently changed the device for channel 0 on my NI 6040 board to a potentiometer. Using MAX's test panel, I could detect the 0-5 V changes of the potentiometer.
Several days later I went back to work on this application, and now channel 0 on my NI 6040 has the error light on, and the error message is "Error-10401 occurred at AI Group Config" and no voltage is displayed. The other channels work fine. Furthermore, when I attempt to run a labview program and use other analog input channels associated with this board, I get the error message "Error - 10001 occurred at AI Group Config."
First, what exactly does Error-10401 mean?
Does anyone have any idea as to why I'm not getting the Error 10401 when I was not previously?
I also unplugged the cable going from analog input devices to the NI 6040 board (so basically nothing was going into the channels) and the error light for Channel 0 remains on. Is this normal with no input? Does this mean the NI-6040 board is perhaps having a problem?

A simple test to check board functionality is to run the 'self-test' in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). This runs a basic diagnostic, such as a simple power check.
There are couple of reasons you may be receiving this error. troubleshooting this error largely depends on the driver you are using from your 6040E. It is likely you are using the Traditional DAQ Driver. If wish to continue using this driver, I suggest upgrading to the latest version available 7.4.4, which may eliminate your error problem.
As for your error, I recommend reading the following KnowledgeBase articles, ensure you have the hardware configurations correctly setup.
Error -10007 When Using the Digital Line Functions With E Series Devices
Error -10007 When Entering a Valid Channel Number in the Test Panel in MAX
Another option, try is resetting the device.
Lastly,I recommend upgrading the DAQmx driver, which is compatible for your device.
