Heat/Electrical/Shock Damage to DAQ Cards

One of our PXI cards, a PXI-6052E has electrical/heat damage on what appears

to be the chip that controls Analog IO. We have experienced this before on

other PCI cards with damage on the same chip. Is there any available information related to what causes hardware damage, or information about

what happens to a PCI/PXI DAQ card during brown-outs or when high voltage

jolts/surges occur? Any information related to overheating thresholds,

electrical surge protection and/or electrical shock thresholds of these

cards would be awesome.

Hi,

 

There is some useful information in the 6052 manual that addresses what the overvoltage protection is for the PXI-6052e (around 25V powered on) and if you exceed this voltage you could see problems such as damage to the Analog or digital channels.  What voltages do you have in your system currently?  Also, if you have high voltages what type of isolation are you using?  What kind of environment are you taking your measurement (temperature, humidity, etc.)?
