I do development of many different software packages on my computer. One thing that I have been having a problem with for a few versions of LabVIEW is importing and exporting channels. Lets say I develop software with many devices on my computer I want to export to another computer that one has one device. I need the ability to import these channels to the other computer with only one card and set them up at a later time. It seems to me that they want to connect to the original card that was used to develop the software. It definitely is not as easy as it used to be where I could import them into my channel list and set them up later.
If I had three cards hooked up on my original computer and I try to import the channels on a computer that has no card or one card then I can simulate one card but I can not simulate more than on so I have to hook up two card to be able to import my channels. This is annoying and useless to me. How come I can not move channels independent of the card that I used to develop the software?
Is independent movement of Global Virtual channels possible?

Hi aeastet,
I am assuming you are referring to importing channels into Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Also, I am a little confused about not being able to simulate more than one device, because I have several simulated devices on my machine. Perhaps when you try to import the configuration, the import wizard only allows you to simulate one device at that time. However, have you tried to simulate all of the devices in MAX before importing the channels?
I would also try to develop with your hardware in, and then remove the hardware and simulate the hardware before exporting the MAX configuration. This would then allow you to bring in the simulated devices onto the target machine, and the user could then choose to replace them with actual hardware in future. Just an idea.

When importing is when I have the issue. It will not allow for me to have two simulated devices if I had three different daq card for all of the channels that I am importing. Id there a way to import where I do not have to tie it to a card at all like I used to be able to when importing and exporting was easy a few generations ago?
I will try to give the simulated device a shot for exporting and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi aeastet,
I was just able to verify that it is possible to export multiple global virtual channels that are based on multiple simulated DAQmx devices in MAX. After I brought the MAX configuration in, I was able to change the physical channel on the global virtual channel input to my actual hardware.
Have you been successful with this approach?
