How do I maximize 6052E acquisition speed using 1394?

I have a 400Mhz PII, 294kbytes of memory, with IOGear GPF103 firewire card. I can't get my NI DAQPad 6052E to acquire a single channel faster than about 10 Hz, without the link hanging under MAX. LabView 7 fares no better. Is there any way to determine what performance I can expect from this system? Is there anyway to improve this performance without getting a new laptop? My 1.8Ghz desktop can run continuously at 10kHz sampling rate or better, but is too bulk to take to the field. Is there a better cardbus II 1394 interface card? (Win 2K, SP4 MAX 3.0, LabView 7.0)

Greetings,

The 1394 driver on your system may not be using the correct 1394 adapter speed and/or internal FIFO size. There is a utility available on National Instruments website to manipulate these settings. It is located HERE. This should give you a place to start troubleshooting.

Good luck with your application.

Spencer, I appreciate the answer. I will download the utility as soon as I can get FTP access.

I have found an alternate 1394 card which works well. Trouble is that it is no longer available.

Do you have a list of PCMCIA (cardbus) 1394 cards which work well with the NI software out of the box?
