Inverting an AO signal.

Hi,

I'm using a PCI 6229 device to output four signals (this is the maximum possible number of Analogue Outputs from this device). I need to get an inverse of these four outputs to get further four outputs. I'm new to signal processing and wanted to know whether there is a practical device that can actually invert an electrical signal.

Hi,

the inverting op-amp would give you a solution. Please note that you will need to supply external power to your circuit.

In your case, you just need a inverter so the set the gain ratio to -1 ( by choosing equal input and feedback resistor values).

The following tutorial explains their operation, you can order these components from companies like RS Components, Maplin e.t.c.

Hi KostasB,

Thanks for the help. I'm actually using a power amplifier to amplify the signals (from which they go to loudspeakers). Someone else suggested that I could just invert the +ve and -ve cables and it might invert the signals. I'm not sure whether it would work, but I'll give it a try. If not, I'll try out your method. I've learned about op-amps in my undergraduate course, but I've never actually thought that they'd come as small devices for me to use.

Will let you know how it goes.

Ruf.
