I have just installed the drivers and software which came with the USB-6008 on a Windows XP PC. The MAX software is giving me a message which says a hotfix (WindowsXPUSBHotfix) is required. The link leads to a Microsoft site which says do not install the fix unless data corruption is occuring. Should I therefore install the fix anyway or try the unit to see if data problems occur?

How are you going to know when the data's getting corrupted? Good-enough error handling in your code for that situation?
Personally I'd install it anyways. I downloaded the 940f1 DAQmx installer, and the hot fix, then burned them both to a DVD. Put the disc in, run the DAQmx installer, then run the hotfix and be done with it.
Is it required to work? Not really. Recommended? I say yes.
