I am part of an FRC team and am trying to set up a very easy-to-use testing board for testing components.
I'm trying to use a cDAQ-9171 for this purpose, with the normal FRC modules - 9201 for analog, 9403 for digital, and 9472 for solenoid.
When I connect the cDAQ to the computer, MAX detects it and displays it in the tree on the left. However, when I insert a module (9403), it doesn't detect it.
I can make a simulated device, and a simulated module inside that and that works fine. But of course this accomplishes nothing.
Any ideas? I have tried googling this problem but I guess my searching techniques need work because I found nothing.

Hi NeatNit
Please see this knowledgebase article on this topic.
You should be able to see the modules in Distributed System Manager instead.
Good luck with FRC!

I am not using a cRIO, I'm using a cDAQ.

Hi
Very sorry I misread your question.
Could you open services on your computer (Start > type 'services.msc') and check that all NI services which have the start type 'Automatic' are also 'Started'.
In particular check 'NI Configuration Manager', 'NI Device Loader' and 'NI Citadel'
Kind Regards

Thanks!
They all appear to be running.
To help out, here's a list:
NI services set as manual and not running:
National Instruments RIO Server
NI License Server
NI services set as automatic and are running:
National Instruments Domain Service
National Instruments LXI Discovery Service
National Instruments P2P Server Locator
National Instruments Time Synchronization
National Instruments Variable Engine
NI Application Web Server
NI Configuration Manager
NI Device Loader
NI mDNS Responder Service
NI Network Discovery
NI PXI Resource Manager
NI System Web Server
I don't see 'NI Citadel'.

Hi
Those all look ok, could you confirm for me which version of NI-DAQmx you are running? You can check from within MAX under Software.
Could you also confirm what happens when you right-click and 'Reset Chassis' and 'Self-Test' on the 9171
Kind Regards

Version 5.3.1f0
When self-testing, the "ACTIVE" light on the cDAQ lights up for about 1/3 of a second, and a message appears on screen: "The driver successfully communicated with cDAQ1."
When resetting, the "ACTIVE" light lights up for about a second and the message shows: "The chassis has been reset successfully."
Also, here is what I see in MAX, including the simulated cDAQ (I renamed it "sDAQ") with the simulated module:
And here is that Distributed System Manager. It's not relevant, is it?

Hi NeatNit
You are correct, DSM isn't relevant in this case.
I forgot to ask - is it just the 9403 module that isn't detected or do none of them show up?
Kind Regards

Actually, I am just going to test this more thoroughly today. I'm pretty sure this module is not defective, but at this very moment I don't have access to the other ones. As I said I will check later today and post the results.

That sounds like a good idea. Your computers configuration looks ok so far.
I'd try each of the c-series modules to see what works. I'd try them in a different chassis if possible, also testing the chassis with a different pc.
That should help pinpoint the issue.
