NI-435x 2.5.2 Fails on Windows 2000

Hi,

I wrote a VB.NET application that uses P/Invoke against ni435x_32.dll to interact with NI-435x hardware. I have tried to install NI-435x 2.5.2 on two Windows 2000 Professional boxes, but both times it errors out with the message:

The NI-435x 2.5.2 installation has failed with the following error. You have selected an installation directoy which does not contain a valid version of NI LabVIEW. Continue? (Yes)/(No)

How can I avoid this? I can't install LabVIEW on the target machines.

Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. From your description, it appears that the installer is trying to install support for LabVIEW. Since you do not have LabVIEW on the computer, you recieve the error.  If you deselect LabVIEW Support when selecting the features to install,  I believe that should get rid of the error.

This picture may differ slightly than what you see since I already have the driver and LabVIEW installed.  Additionally, if you select continue when recieving the error, it should just skip that portion and install the rest of the driver.

Coming back to this subject after being busy with other things...

A few further questions:

1) The 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 have a different installer structure than 2.5 in that they include Traditional NI-DAQ. I need to do unattended install as part of a larger installer package. Doing unattended install on 2.5 is pretty easy, but I'm not sure how to do it on 2.5.1 or 2.5.2 without running into the error described above. Any clues?

2) I would like to install Traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 - I think the version of NI-DAQ that ships with 2.5.2 is 7.4.2.  Is there any way to extract just the NI-435X bits from the NI-435X 2.5.2 package so that I don't have to dump two versions of Traditional NI-DAQ on the same install CD?

3) The notes for 2.5.2 say it's supported for PXI-4351 and PCI-4351, but there is no mention of USB-4350 and PCMCIA-4350 as there is for 2.5.1.  Is this an oversight or are the USB and PCMCIA devices really not supported on 2.5.2?

1.  There is a bug in the 2.5.2 install that could cause issues if you are not installing LabVIEW support so I would recommend sticking with 2.5.1.  Either way I don't think you will be able to do an unattended install.

2.  There is no way to easily extract certain components of the installer.

3.  Device support is listed for version 2.5.x so if it is still supported under 2.5 I would imagine it is still supported under 2.5.2
