Hi,
I am using NI-9178 cDAQ (also the 9174 with 4 slots), with some C module, namely some digital I/Os and one analog output.
It is used in the functional test of an electronic device.
This device under test (DUT) has also a serial port that uses RS485 2-wire + Modbus ASCII protocol.
My questions are:
1) can I use the NI-9871 with cDAQ to communicate (sending and receive modbus ASCII commands) with DUT??
2) is NI-9871 usable only with cRIO ? in that case how much additional programming effort require? should I program the cRIO FPGA?!
thanks

Hi!!
NI-9871 is module designed for serial communication under RS485/RS422 protocol, so you can use it to communicate with any compatible devices with RS485/RS422.
You can find the module manual at the following link:

You can find more about C-series module compatibility at the following link:

To clarify, at this time none of the Serial, CAN, or Motion modules are compatibile with any of the cDAQ chassis. They can only be used with CompactRIO chassis using LabVIEW FPGA programming.
