NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 Test Panels failure

After trying to start a Test Panel from the Measurement & Automation, a dialog box pops up with a progress bar:

"Please wait while Windows configures NI Labwindows/CVI 8.1 Run-Time Engine"

After the configuration process has been finished a Yes/No message box shows up with a message:

"You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to Labwindows/CVI Run-Time Engine to take effect…." – Yes/No.

Confirming "Yes" results in reboot and after reboot the same dialogs are shown up trying to tun the test panel.

If the "No" selected, both dialogs continue to be presented this way 3 times, but after it a Test Panel is displayed, but trying to run it results in a failure with the message:

"Ni Measurements MAX Stand-Alone Test Panels has stop working".

I tried reinstalling the NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 package, but it didn't help.
Here is my system configuration:

Hi MikiO

Thank you for using our discussion forums.

This is an interesting error you are seeing.  I have done a bit searching similar forums, and I have seen one other instance of this, however I don’t know if it was occurring on a Vista machine.

There are a few things I need you to ensure.  First off has this problem always been occurring, has it just recently started?  If it is just recent, did a specific installation start causing this error?

Secondly, do you have administrative rights to the computer?  If so can you ensure that all software was installed as the administrator.  With Vista it is necessary to install software as the administrator, especially drivers.

Please let me know and I can continue to help

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the rapid answer.
1. This is a clear install of the Vista x86 on this machine on a brand new hard drive.
2. The problem I noticed immediately after installing the NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 driver and no other software wasn't installed since.
3. All the installations on the machine were done with administrative account permissions. The installation itself was successful without any errors. I, actually, after discovering this problem, uninstalled the whole NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 package and installed it again after reboot, but no joy…

Regards,
Michael

Hi Michael

There are few more things I can suggest is.

First off can you try and repair the LabWindows/CVI Runtime installation.  Or maybe even uninstall and reinstall the latest version from our website.  Version 8.5 can be found at the following link  I have learned that LabWindows/CVI Runtime is required for test panels to run so it might be prudent to upgrade as there may have been a problem with the initial installer.

Another thing to check is if you can run other test panels.  Lets try running a Visa Test panel by expanding Serial & Parallel, and right clicking on Com1 and select VISA test panel.  Also lets try and create a simulated device and run a test panel from there.  If you are unfamiliar with simulated devices, see the following link

Lastly lets try to run test panels independent from Measurement and Automation Explorer.  If you open the Run Command Window and type in “nidmfpan.exe /devid: Dev1”.  This will open test panels for Dev1.

Let me know the results of this.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,
Thanks. The CVI Run-Time version 8.5 just solved the problem. I didn't uninstall anything. Just installed the newer CVI Run-Time version 8.5 over the old Run-Time version 8.1 that for some reason has been received with the NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 package. After doing this, the Test Panels just run, like it supposed to be, without any errors.
It is strange, by the way, why the newest DAQmx driver pack (8.7.1) would not include an appropriate new version of CVI Run-Time - 8.5 ?!
It is available for download separately anyway.

Thank you,
Regards,
Michael
