NI-DAQmx (PCIe-8360) device

Configuration tree in Measurement and Automation (MAX) does not show  newly installed NI-DAQmx (PCIe-8360) device

Just to be clear, the 8360 is a controller card, and is not a "DAQmx card". You should be able to see the DAQmx devices in the chassis the 8360 is connected to in your MAX "Devices and Interfaces" section.

Gavin thank you very much for your clarification. In fact the card I have installed on my PC is NI PCIe-8361. I am using Windows 7 professional. In the Device Manger it is being identintified as Universial Serial Bus controller with yellow exclamation point and following error message:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

I am follwing th instruction on the following page and am stuck at step#2

http://www.ni.com/gettingstarted/

My problem is this that when I expand Devices and Interface in the configuration tree in MAX, this card does not show up.

I have also used NI MXI-express BIOS Compatibility Software 1.4 to correct the problem but it did not solve the problem either. Any advice or help at this stage will be highly appreciated.

I am using NI PXI-1036 system with NI PXI-8360 MXI-Express controller in Chassis slot 1

Gaving, I have installed the software from the website you had indicated. Now there is communication between PC and NI PXI-1036 system. MAX is showing PXI-1036 Chassis 1 and the chassis status is :This Chassis is properly configured".

Max configuration tree is also showing following devices:

Slot#                                  Device

1                                        NI PXI-8360 Remote Controller

2                                        NI PXI-6652 Dev2

3                                        NI PXI-6115 Dev3

6                                        NI PXI-4132 Dev1

The devices in slot #s 2,3, and 6 have passed the self test. But when I right click on the device in slot #1 it gives me a simple grey screen with no information. It does not give me any Serial No., PXI slot No. or PXI chassis No.

NI PCIe-8361 device is still not showing up in the configuration tree.

In the device manager I am getting NI MXI Devices and when expanded it gives me NI PXI-8360 with NI logo and Universal serial bus controller with yellow exclamation sign superimposed on NI logo. It is identifying it as NI MXI device but returning the same error (code 28) "The Drivers for this device are not installed".

In the MAX configuration tree under Serial & Parallel I am getting two devices COM1 and LPT1. Here is the device statues and device usage for both of them.

Device Status:

MAX could not open a VISA session to this static device. The device was not returned from VISA when finding resources but MAX was able to use VISA to parse the resource name.

Device Usage:

Device Enabled.

This is what I get when I open VISA test Panel:

Error Opening Resource:

ASRL 10 :: INSTR

VISA:(Hex 0xBFFF 0011)

Insufficient location informationor the device or resource is not present in the system

Any advice at this stage?

depends on what you are trying to do...

I wouldn't worry too much about what you see in Device manager. I'm not familiar with the devices that enuerate under the MXI device, but you could post on the PXI forum to get more help. As long as you can see and get data from the devices you desire to work with in the 1036 chassis you should be fine. Also, Serial & Parallel in MAX shows ports on your computer as well and that needs certain drivers as well. Unless you are using Serial or Parallel ports to communicate with an external device I wouldn't worry about these either (You could post to the Instrument Control forum for that question).

The main question is: Can you move forward with your application? Have you installed the drivers and run examples on the 6115 and 4132?

I have begun testing 6115 and 4132. They both seem to be working fine. However there seems to be a minor problem. I am using MAX version 5.4.0f0. In this version connection diagram tool does not support TB-2708. It supports other accessories like SCB-68, CB-68LP, TBX-68, CB-68LPR, Scc-68, and TB-2705, What should I do to get MAX to support TB-2708 also.

I believe the 2708 is a direct connect so no "configuration" is necessary. If a TB has scaling or switching then MAX would need to be able to configure it.
