NI9213 Channel Interaction

Hello,

I am using the cDAQ-9178 chassis with the following modules: 2x NI9213, 2x NI9201, 1x NI9481. My LabVIEW code is set up to display and log several measurements for a continuously monitored flow experiment. Our system operates with water flowing at high temperature and pressure with online monitoring of temperature (with Type-K thermocouples), pressure, and flow rate, etc.

While commissioning a new test section (making use of 8 new thermocouples in a previously unused NI9213 module), I noticed that when our system was at the operating temperature (~380oC) some of our thermocouples failed to read the right temperature. This was confirmed by plugging on of the in-line thermocouples directly into a handheld unit. Further, when I unplugged one channel (by disconnecting the lead that runs to the cDAQ), several of the other TC readings shot up by 20 degrees to ~ 400oC.

Am I right in thinking that disconnecting one TC shouldn't affect the measurement/data acquisition of another TC?

Full disclosure: I'm a complete noob with LabVIEW. Thanks for your patience, in advance.
