PCI-6032 error 200329

I'm using a PCI-6032E with a SCB-68 to collect an analog signal in a mass spectrometer system (AB Sciex API-5000 running software Analyst 1.5).  When trying to use the card in the mass spectrometer software, all data acquisition will stop immediately after the start signal is sent.  The card will not pass the self-test in either the Measurement and Acquisition software.  I've tried moving the card to another PCI slot in the computer and also re-installing the driver.  I'm currently using version 8.3 of the NI-DAQmx driver based upon the mass spectrometer vendor's recommendation.

I downloaded and ran the NI diagnostic utility.  The results are:

  • Device detection - PASS
  • Device reset - PASS
  • Self-calibration - FAIL with error code 50152 ("A hardware failure has occurred. The operation could not be completed as specified").
  • Counter testing - PASS for both CTR buffered pulse generation and CRT single pulse generation.
  • Analog input - FAIL at "testing AI ground reference" with error code 200329 ("An error has occurred while attempting to configure the device for an analog input acquisition. If an external master timebase is being used, make sure the source is connected and generating an appropriate clock.").
  • Analog input - FAIL at "testing AI voltage reference" with another 200329 error.
  • Analog input - FAIL at "testing AI finite sample clock" with another 200329 error.
  • Analog input - FAIL at "testing AI finite sample clock frequency" with another 200329 error.
  • Digital IO - PASS for both "testing DIO lines" and "testing DIO ports".

I'm assuming this is a problem with the PCI-6032E card itself, possibly with the internal clock.  I don't have another computer available to test the card in, or any spare PCI-6032E, SCB-68, or cable to test.  Could the problem also lie in the SCB-68 or the cable connecting them together?  How can I pinpoint the exact problem so that I don't have to purchase all three components?  If the problem is with the internal clock of the PCI-6032E, can an external clock be used somehow (sorry, I don't know much about that process)?

Good morning rawphd,

Thank you for the message and for running the DAQ Diagnostic in advance.  One thing we can try to do is to installing the latest version of DAQmx, version 9.1.  Here is the link for the download, and the device is supported by the driver.  It does sound like something is going wrong with your card, but sometimes a driver update can remedy the issue.  It is most likely that your SCB-68 screw terminal breakout board is not the source of this error, because it only breaks out the pin connections, as well as the cable.  You can disconnect the cable and the SCB-68 and run the test to remove them from the picture.  Also, make sure that the card is making a proper connection and is seated correctly in the PCI slot, along with ensuring that the PCI pin connections are clean and free of debris/dust.  Please let me know how he troubleshooting and new driver install goes.

Best,
