In one of our labs we have a setup based around a PCI-6255 to capture 72 analog channels and we want to expand the setup with an additional 72 channels in the future.
The PC the card is in only has 1 PCI slot for the card and 1 free PCIe slot and there don't seem to be any PCIe DAQ card that have more than 32 analog input channels.
Are there plans for PCIe cards that have more than 64 analog input channels as a replacement for the current PCI-6255 that is in "Last Time Buy" status?

It doesn't look like there are alternatives. Better option would be to buy a PC that has multiple PCI slot (there are several industrial PC vendors who prioritize PCI slot), buy as many PCI-6255 as needed before it is obsolete.

With the additional channels, I would be looking at going with PXIe. You might get away with using a PXIe-1090 chassis (2 slots, Thunderbolt connection to a PC) and then 2x PXIe-6355 cards. I would need to experiment to see if you can have a single DAQmx task control both cards.
EDIT: I had to reboot my computer since I was updating all of my NI software. The PXIe-6355 is an X-series card. So, you can control both cards with a single task. I verified this with simulated devices in MAX.

Those PXI options are great but comes with a comparatively higher entry cost for the chassis and cards compared to just buying a stock pile of 6255s
